Kara Eckmann Powell, PhD
Dr. Kara Powell is the Executive Director of the Fuller Youth Institute (FYI) and a faculty member at Fuller Theological Seminary. Named by Christianity Today as one of “50 Women You Should Know,” Kara serves as a Youth and Family Strategist for Orange, and also speaks regularly at parenting and leadership conferences. Kara is the author or coauthor of a number of books, including the forthcoming Growing Young (fall 2016), The Sticky Faith Guide for Your Family, Sticky Faith Curriculum, Can I Ask That?, Deep Justice Journeys, Essential Leadership, Deep Justice in a Broken World, Deep Ministry in a Shallow World, and the Good Sex Youth Ministry Curriculum. She holds a BA from Stanford University, an MDiv from Bethel Theological Seminary, and a PhD from Fuller. Kara lives in Pasadena, California, with her husband, Dave, who is a medical device engineer, and their children, Nathan, Krista, and Jessica.
Brad M. Griffin, MDiv
Brad M. Griffin, MDiv, is the Associate Director of the Fuller Youth Institute, where he develops research-based training for youth workers and parents. A speaker, blogger, and volunteer youth pastor, Brad is the coauthor of the forthcoming Growing Young (fall 2016), several Sticky Faith books, Right Click: Parenting Your Teenager in a Digital Media World, and the series Can I Ask That?: 8 Hard Questions about God and Faith, and has authored a number of youth ministry book chapters and journal articles. He is a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary (MDiv Youth, Family, and Culture) and Asbury University (BA Psychology). Originally from Kentucky, Brad now lives in Southern California with his wife Missy and their three children and leads the youth ministry at Mountainside Communion.
Chap Clark, PhD
Chapman “Chap” Clark is professor and chair of the Youth, Family, and Culture department in the School of Theology at Fuller Seminary. On faculty since 1997, he created and directs Fuller’s Master’s level and Doctor of Ministry programs in Youth, Family, and Culture, and oversees PhD students in Practical Theology. A well-known practitioner, adolescent and family scholar, and author, Chap has more than 30 years experience in direct ministry, including 15 years with Young Life, as well as positions with several churches, Denver Seminary, Youth Specialties, and was the Senior Editor of Youthworker Journal for seven years. He is President of ParenTeen and Harbor Hope Services, and continues to work closely with Young Life. Chap’s extensive publication of books, articles, and videos focus primarily on relationships. Among the many books he has authored, co-authored and edited are Adoptive Youth Ministry, Youth Ministry in the 21st Century, Sticky Faith (Parent edition, with Kara Powell) and Hurt 2.0: Inside the World of Today's Teenagers. Chap and his wife Dee live in Gig Harbor, Washington, and have three adult children.
Steven Argue, PhD
Steve is an Applied Research Strategist with FYI and a faculty member with Fuller Seminary, teaching in the Youth, Family, and Culture program. He directs our Sticky Faith Cohort coaches, and serves on the Executive Advisory Council for the Churches Engaging Young People Project. Prior to coming to Fuller, Steve served as a pastor and theologian-in-residence at Mars Hill Bible Church [Grand Rapids, MI]. He researches, speaks, and writes on topics surrounding adolescence, emerging adulthood, spiritual development, and spiritual struggle.
Irene M. Cho, MDiv
Irene Cho serves as the Program Manager for the Fuller Youth Institute (FYI). She holds a Master of Divinity with an emphasis in Pastoral and General Ministries from Talbot Theological Seminary and a BA in Christian Education from Biola University, and is a PhD student in Fuller's School of Intercultural Studies. At FYI Irene is the point person for the Urban Youth Ministry Certificate program, event planning, and FYI systems overall. Having served over 15 years in youth ministry, Irene speaks all over the country at conferences such as Youth for Christ, Youth Specialties DC/LA, JAMA New Awakening, Urban Youth Workers Institute and youth retreats, has written various curriculums and consults for many youth ministries. Her passion is for the misfits of the world and to bring the gospel message to those who seem to fall through the cracks. In her minimal spare time, Irene enjoys a great book, movie, or television show, hanging out with friends and former students, and of course getting some sleep.
Marcos Canales, MDiv
Marcos Canales, originally from Costa Rica, also grew up in Peru, Ecuador, and Paraguay as the son of Peruvian Nazarene missionaries. Marcos received his B.A. in Philosophy and Theology from Point Loma Nazarene University and his MDiv from Fuller Theological Seminary. Marcos has been church planting amongst the Latina community of the greater Los Angeles area for the last ten years. During this time, he has worked with nonprofit community organizations in the areas of urban youth development, mentorship, and immigration advocacy. Currently, Marcos is the pastor of La Fuente Ministries, a bilingual, intercultural, and intergenerational ministry of Pasadena First Church of the Nazarene. He also serves on the advisory board for the Immigration Resource Center of the San Gabriel Valley. His other passion includes spending time with his loving wife, Andrea and his son, Elias Kaleo.
Megan Hutchinson, MA
Energetic, passionate and a littly nutty are words which best describe Megan. She’s a wife, mom, minister, national speaker and author. She’s been a youth minister for 20+ years, which included 8+ years at Saddleback Church where she ran an 8-step program she co-authored called Life Hurts – God Heals, selling internationally. She also wrote I Want to Talk to my Teen about Addictions and Secret Survivors. She is currently a youth pastor at The Following. Megan and her husband have two super sweet kids they totally dig. A Fuller graduate, Megan also serves on the Fuller Youth Institute Advisory Board.
Mike Park, MDiv
Mike Park serves as a pastor at Hope Midtown, a church plant in the heart of New York City. Before that, Mike led student ministries for 12 years in churches in California and New York in various cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic contexts. He completed a BA from University of California, Berkeley, an MDiv from Fuller Seminary, and is currently a Doctor of Ministry student at Fuller. Mike also serves as a coach for the FYI Sticky Faith Cohort and is a Student Ministry Associate with Slingshot Group. Mike has the great privilege of speaking to students, parents, and youth leaders all across the country. Mike and his wife Jeanne live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Jeff Mattesich, MA
Jeff Mattesich is the Associate Pastor of Children and Students at Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena, CA. As a 15-year youth ministry veteran, Jeff has served in several roles in both local church and Christian camping organizations. Prior to his role as Associate Pastor, Jeff served as High School Pastor at Lake Avenue and Junior High and College Director at Forest Home Christian Conference Center. Jeff completed his B.A. in Biblical Studies at Azusa Pacific University and went on to receive a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. Jeff has been a contributing author, guest lecturer, camp and conference speaker, strategic thinker, and creative contributor to several churches, camps, schools, and organizations over his years in youth ministry. He has been married to his incredible wife Jenny since 2002, and is the proud father to Henry and Russell.
Santes Beatty, MA
Santes Beatty is currently the Director of Multi-Ethnic Ministries at The Wesleyan Church World Headquarters. In this role he serves 1,700 churches and 31 districts in North America helping to plant new multi-ethnic churches and transitioning mono-ethnic ones. Prior to this he was a youth pastor and teaching team member for a multi-ethnic, missional and multiplying church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and at a predominantly Black traditional Baptist Church in North Carolina. A graduate of Guilford College and Huntington University, Santes is a coaching consultant for Mosaix Global Network, a motivational speaker and guest lecturer for conferences, camps and other events, and the founder of Crossover Consulting. Santes and his wife Nicole live in Indianapolis with their four children.
Tim Galleher, MDiv
Tim Galleher is Pastor of Youth and Family Ministries at Saratoga Federated Church in Saratoga, California. He has worked with students and parents for over thirty years in the local church and parachurch organizations including Young Life and the YMCA. Tim has a passion for bringing churches together and meeting the needs of students and parents. He is excited to have the opportunity to equip parents to raise teenagers. Tim has been part of the FYI Sticky Faith Cohort and is part of the FYI research team. Tim and his wife Cara live in Saratoga and have three children ages 20, 17 and 15.
Cheryl A. Crawford, PhD
Cheryl A. Crawford holds a PhD in practical theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and serves as Associate Professor of Practical Theology and Youth Ministry at Azusa Pacific University (APU) in Azusa, CA. She also serves as Director of Youth Ministry at APU. Cheryl brings over 30 years of church and parachurch youth ministry experience to the table, as well as a theological perspective informed by the social sciences. Her research, writing, and speaking has focused on adolescent faith and spiritual development, updated most recently in Sticky Faith (Youth Leader edition, co-authored with Kara Powell and Brad Griffin). She consults with local high school administrators during the academic year, is a member of the preaching team at Christ Our King Church in Azusa, and serves as Camp Pastor at Camp Brookwoods/Deer Run during the summers in New Hampshire.
David Fraze, DMin
David Fraze is Special Assistant to the President of Lubbock Christian University and Fort Worth Area Director and Manager of DFW Character Coaches for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Based out of North Richland Hills, Texas, David has been a student minister for over 25 years, and holds a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Seminary. David is a popular speaker at youth ministry events and schools. He has contributed articles for youthspecialties.com, ENGAGE, the quarterly journal of The Center for Parent/Youth Understanding, Youth Worker Journal, Journal of Student Ministries, and the Fuller Youth Institute. David also serves as a Ministry Coach for Youth Specialties, and Character Coach for Richland High School Athletics. He has been married to Lisa for 25 years, and they have two children.
